NO MENTAL MANIPULATION. Coach Marian Vajda on Djokovic.

A few weeks ago everybody wondered what was going on when Novak Djokovic decided to play the tournament in Paris without his coaches Marian Vajda and Boris Becker to be accompanied by the “love guru” Pepe Imaz. There were rumors about a sort of mental manipulation and Djokovic being completely unable to cope with the pressure and the expectations.

There is no mental manipulation

During a recent interview, Marian confirmed that there are no problems within the coaching group to comment

“Switching off is sometimes healthy. Novak felt broken from all the stress (from winning Roland Garros), and he decided he didn’t want to live that way anymore. He worked with Pepe (Imaz) in the past, and the fact they are close again is nothing new. His only goal is to reduce stress through meditation.

There is no mental manipulation. All those stories are overblown; people misinterpret what is happening with Novak. He just wants to be what he is. Image of an invincible, rich and famous player doesn’t suit him anymore. Let me remind you that Bjorn Born stopped playing tennis when he was 26 because he felt the pressure was too great on him.

Novak came to the point when he wondered: ‘OK, now what?’. When you win it all, how do you find motivation to keep going?”
