Joao Fonseca dreams of facing Novak Djokovic early in a Grand Slam

Joao Fonseca, one of the rising stars in tennis, has expressed his desire to play against Novak Djokovic in the early rounds of a Grand Slam tournament. The young Brazilian, who has been making waves with his impressive performances, sees the opportunity as a valuable experience rather than a challenge to avoid.

Fonseca has shared that whenever he enters a major tournament, he tells his coach that he hopes to face Djokovic. He views the match as a chance to test himself against one of the greatest players in history and embrace the atmosphere of competing against a top seed.

“When we start these biggest tournaments, the Grand Slams, the qualies, I always tell my coach: ‘If I go to the main draw, I want to play Djokovic,’ because it’s probably one of the last times. I hope I can play him,” Fonseca recently said.

“I’d love to face Djokovic first, second round. I’d try to play my best tennis, the result wouldn’t matter, I’d just enjoy it. I like to play the top seeds, I like the challenge. I play with no pressure, so I think I can play well there. I like to play with the crowd also, so it’s an experience I want to have. Some players will want to play ‘easier’ first, but I want to play the iconic ones.”

His fearless approach to competition reflects his confidence and eagerness to learn from the best. While many players might prefer an easier path in the early rounds, Fonseca welcomes the challenge, believing that playing against legends like Djokovic will help him grow as an athlete.

As Djokovic continues to dominate the sport, Fonseca remains hopeful that he will get the chance to share the court with him. Whether it happens soon or later in his career, the young player’s determination and enthusiasm show his commitment to making the most of every opportunity in professional tennis.
