Andrea Vavassori has announced his withdrawal from the Barcelona Open following a rib fracture sustained during his doubles match against Ben Shelton and Rohan Bopanna at the Monte Carlo Masters. The Italian player, who partnered with Simone Bolelli, faced a challenging match that ended in a dramatic comeback by the Indo-American duo.

The injury occurred early in the match, with Vavassori later confirming the extent of the damage through medical examinations. In a social media post, he shared that the fracture would require him to take a break from competition, forcing him to miss the upcoming tournament in Barcelona. Despite the setback, Vavassori expressed optimism about returning in time for the Madrid Open.

This was his post:

“Sadly I have to withdraw from Barcelona next week due a rib injury happened at the beginning of yesterday’s match. Exams showed a little infraction so have to stop playing for some days
See you in Madrid.”
