Massimo Calvelli, the chief executive officer of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), has announced his decision to step down from his role at the end of June 2025. Calvelli, who has served as CEO since January 2020, played a pivotal role in navigating the organization through significant challenges, including the global pandemic and its impact on the tennis world.

During his tenure, Calvelli oversaw transformative changes within the ATP, such as the implementation of the OneVision strategic plan and a historic increase in player compensation, which is now over $100 million higher compared to 2019. He also championed sustainability initiatives and social impact projects, leaving a lasting mark on the organization.

As the ATP begins its search for a successor, Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi will temporarily assume the dual role of chairman and CEO. Gaudenzi expressed his gratitude for Calvelli’s leadership and contributions, highlighting his strategic focus and dedication to the sport.

Calvelli’s departure comes at a time of turbulence in the tennis world, with ongoing legal actions and calls for greater player representation and prize money distribution. Despite these challenges, his leadership has been instrumental in driving growth and collaboration across the sport.

This was the statement.

“The ATP today announces that Chief Executive Officer Massimo Calvelli will step down from his role at the end of June 2025. As the search for his successor commences, ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi will assume the dual role of Chairman and CEO on an interim basis.

Appointed in January 2020, Calvelli played a pivotal role in guiding the organisation through the challenges of the global pandemic and was instrumental in the development and execution of OneVision, ATP’s long-term strategic plan. Working closely with Gaudenzi, he oversaw transformative change across the ATP Tour, including a historic increase in player compensation – now more than $100 million higher in 2025 compared to 2019 – and record-breaking commercial growth.

During his tenure, Calvelli also championed collaboration across the sport, including advancing the ongoing exploration of Tennis Ventures, a proposed commercial merger designed to unify ATP and WTA commercial assets and unlock new growth. Under his leadership, the ATP also launched its first-ever sustainability strategy, and ATP Serves, a dedicated platform for social impact.”
