Alexander Zverev bests Nicolas Jarry 6-4 6-2 in the 1st round in Hamburg on Tuesday. Zverev will square off with in the 2nd round.

1st set.

The German won the set after he broke the Chilean in the 3rd (2-1) and in the 7th (5-2) game. The Chilean tried to stage a comeback breaking in the 8th (5-3) game. Nevertheless, Alexander kept the focus before winning the set 6-4.

Zverev failed to serve out the set when leading 5-2 to be broken at 40.

2nd set.

The German in this set was in much better shape than Nicolas and consequentely he won 6-2 after breaking Nicolas in the 5th (3-2) and in the 7th (5-2) game.

Nicolas had no answers in the last 5 games of the set (from 1-2 to 6-2).

At the end of the match, Alexander scored 59 points vs. the Chilean’s 46 points.

Alexander served pretty well to win 79% of the points (27/34) behind his first serve. However he won only 48% points (10/21) on his second serve. Zverev was pretty focused in converting 67% of the break points that he conquered (4/6). On the other side, Jarry had some problems in converting his break points because he converted only 20% of his break points (1/5). That was one of the key issues for his defeat.

After this encounter, the head to head between Zverev and Jarry is 2-1 for Alexander.

Talking about his strategy, Sascha commented: “I had decided to go into the match much more aggressive than in the last encounters we played. If you let him into the match he is unbelievably good and can play very aggressively. When he has to move and run a bit, he might become a little worse, but all-in-all it was a very positive first round for me.”
