Why Dominic Thiem is happy to see Sascha Zverev in Hamburg

HAMBURG. Thiem and Zverev are about to start their run in Hamburg

Dominic Thiem and Sascha Zverev are the top seed at the upcoming ATP500 in Hamburg.

It was almost “obvious” to see Dominic playing this event since it is a rare occasion to play a prestigious tournament on clay with Rafael Nadal not being around. However, it was less obvious seeing the seed no2, Sascha Zverev, competing since the German usually prefers to take a break after Wimbledon to get ready for the North America swing that is played on hard courts.

Nevertheless, Zverev admitted that he decided to plain Hamburg also because he needs to recover some self-belief give the fact that his self-confidence after Wimbledon was “below zero.”

Thiem about being a friend to Zverev

Talking ahead of his Hamburg campaign, Dominic replied to a question about Sascha participating in the event. Thiem commented:

“On the one hand, every competitor in the fight for the title is less good for me, on the other hand, I am pleased to see him. We are more than just colleagues.”

Both Thiem and Zverev had a rather tough draw as the Austrian will face Pablo Cuevas in the first round while Sascha will fight against Nicolas Jarry that has recently triumphed in Bastad in the opener.
