Alexandra Eala, the 19-year-old tennis sensation from the Philippines, delivered a remarkable performance at the Miami Open, defeating world number two Iga Swiatek in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. The victory marked a historic moment for Eala, who became the first Filipina to reach the semi-finals of a WTA 1000 tournament.

After the match, Eala shared her emotions, describing the experience as surreal and overwhelming. “I’m in complete disbelief right now, I’m on cloud nine,” she said during her on-court interview. Her composed demeanor during the match belied the magnitude of her achievement, but she admitted that the realization of her victory hit her hard after the final point.

Eala credited her ability to stay in the moment and focus on each point as key to her success. She also expressed gratitude for the support of her family and the Rafael Nadal Academy, where she has trained since the age of 13. The academy’s influence, combined with her family’s values, has shaped her professional approach and prepared her for high-pressure situations.

This is what she said in the following press conference.
