A few weeks ago the WTA boss, Steve Simon, stated that tennis needs new formats in order to meet the new demand. The idea was to introduce faster scoring systems such as the (infamous) no-ads and the super tiebreak in the decider.
Rafael Nadal was completely against the idea because according to the King of Clay that would alter the basic values of tennis

Nole disagrees with Rafa’s point to comment
“All sports are doing everything they can in order to get their sport to the highest possible level and fulfil their potential. I think tennis has yet to fulfil its full potential. I think we are at a good state at the moment, for sure, but we still have a lot of room to get better.”
“Some of the rules are worthy of consideration… some are not. So I guess we all have to come together and figure out the way we want to improve and evolve, because everything else is going in that direction.”
Do you agree with Djokovic about a different scoring system? |
IN RESPECTFUL DISAGREEMENT |
I don`t see anything in this statement which supports the scoring changes. Perhaps I missed something. I do, however, completely agree with Rafa that to change the scoring would considerably gut fundamental values of tennis and replace championship play with something less. To do this for the purposes of scheduling (television / commercial coverage) and fans` shrinking attention spans
would be pandering to the pop "demands of the moment" rather than supporting the spirit of the game.
