Emma Raducanu’s brief collaboration with Slovakian coach Vlado Platenik has drawn attention to the challenges faced by the young tennis star. The partnership, which lasted only 14 days, ended abruptly, with both parties citing different reasons for the split. Platenik, known for his developmental skills, expressed surprise at Raducanu’s decision to part ways, but he acknowledged the immense pressure she faces as a player under constant scrutiny.

During their short stint, Platenik worked intensively on Raducanu’s technical aspects, including her serve and footwork. He noted her rapid improvement, describing her as “super talented” and capable of adapting quickly to new techniques. Despite this progress, the coach admitted that the timing of their collaboration might not have been ideal, as Raducanu’s psychological state and external pressures played a significant role in the decision.

“It was a very short period, and she was really getting it very fast, which proves that she’s super talented. But she needs to feel comfortable,” he said. “I think me, you, or anyone else can’t truly understand what’s happening inside her head or the psychological burden she’s dealing with. I just hope she took something away from our time together and can build on certain aspects I introduced to her.

It’s all about timing. It’s about the mental state of the player, and unfortunately, it just didn’t work out.”

Raducanu, on her part, stated that the partnership was not heading in the right direction, emphasizing the importance of feeling comfortable with her team. The split highlights the complexities of finding the right coaching fit, especially for a player navigating the expectations that come with her meteoric rise in the tennis world.

Platenik remains optimistic about Raducanu’s future, hoping that she can build on the insights gained during their brief collaboration. As she continues her search for stability and consistency in her coaching team, Raducanu’s journey serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between technical development and mental well-being in professional sports.
