Angelique Kerber can’t go beyond a 3^rd round!

The German is struggling with his new status of being the new world no.1 After bowing in the 3^rd round in Wuhan, Angelique now loses at the same stage against Elina Svitolina in Beijing.

Angie has lots to recriminate about her performance at the China Open because she was one break up both in the first and the second set. Eventually, Svitolina found the solution in both occasions to win 6-3 7-5.

Elina is not new to defeating a world no.1 as she beat Serena Williams in the summer. Svitolina admitted that being aggressive was essential to beat Kerber

“I was trying to think about my next step, what I should try to do,” Svitolina commented. “I tried to make my first serve and concentrated on the next shot, but still I was a little bit shaky!”

Next vs. Gavrilova

Elina will play Daria Gavrilova in the quarters. The head to head is 2-1 for the Australian, but Svitolina is the obvious favorite to reach the final 4.
