Emma Raducanu has opened up about her harrowing experience with a stalker during the Dubai Open. The 22-year-old British tennis star revealed that she received unwanted attention from a “fixated” man before and during her second-round match against Karolina Muchova. The ordeal left her cowering behind the umpire’s chair in tears, struggling to breathe and see the ball through her tears.

Raducanu disclosed that she had previously been approached twice by the man off-court, which added to her distress. The incident occurred early in the first set of the Muchova match, and although the man was removed from the arena, Raducanu lost the match 7-6, 6-4. After the match, she posted an update on Instagram, describing the experience as “difficult” and later opted not to press charges. However, the individual has been banned from future tournaments.

The former US Open champion expressed her gratitude for the increased security measures now in place, which have helped her feel more protected. She acknowledged that the situation could have been handled better by tennis authorities but emphasized the importance of learning from the experience and moving forward positively.

Raducanu’s resilience and determination to continue competing despite the emotional turmoil are commendable. She will return to action this week at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, facing Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima in the first round. The tennis community and her fans will undoubtedly be supporting her as she moves past this challenging chapter in her career.
