The Las Vegas exhibition between Sinner and Taylor Fritz has been postponed after Jannik’s suspension

The MGM Rewards Slam exhibition in Las Vegas, originally scheduled for March 1-2, 2025, has been postponed due to several key players withdrawing due to doping suspensions, food poisoning, and abdominal injuries. The event, which featured Naomi Osaka and Aryna Sabalenka, was expected to be an outstanding couple of days. The postponement raises questions about the scheduling and organization of high-profile exhibitions.

The highly anticipated MGM Rewards Slam exhibition in Las Vegas, originally set to feature top tennis stars Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz, has been postponed. The event, scheduled for March 1-2, 2025, was expected to showcase some of the biggest names in both the ATP and WTA circuits. However, a series of unfortunate circumstances led to the withdrawal of several key players, ultimately resulting in the postponement of the event.

Jannik Sinner, the world No. 1, was initially confirmed for the exhibition but had to withdraw due to a doping suspension. Sinner tested positive for a banned substance and received a three-month suspension, preventing him from participating in any tennis-related activities until May. Casper Ruud was announced as Sinner’s replacement, but he too had to withdraw after developing food poisoning at the Mexican Open in Acapulco. Joining Ruud on the sidelines were Alexander Zverev and Tommy Paul, who also fell ill due to food poisoning in Acapulco.

Taylor Fritz, the top-ranked American player, was forced to withdraw from the Mexican Open due to an abdominal injury. This injury also prevented him from competing at the MGM Rewards Slam, leaving the event organizers scrambling for a replacement. With the Indian Wells Masters set to begin on March 5, it was unlikely that any player would risk aggravating their ailments so close to the ATP Masters 1000 event.

The postponement of the Las Vegas exhibition is a significant disappointment for tennis fans who were eager to see their favorite players in action. The event had promised to be an outstanding couple of days, with tickets already sold out and a star-studded lineup that included Naomi Osaka and Aryna Sabalenka from the WTA circuit. Despite the setbacks, the exhibition match between Sabalenka and Osaka is still planned for Saturday.

It remains uncertain if or when the MGM Rewards Slam exhibition will be rescheduled. The organizers have not yet announced a new date for the event, leaving fans and players alike in limbo. The postponement has also raised questions about the scheduling and organization of such high-profile exhibitions, especially when they coincide with major ATP and WTA tournaments.
