Lucas Pouille is having a dream year!

The Frenchman has recently reached the quarters in Wimbledon and the US Open, and he has now finally won his maiden title in Metz.

Lucas played a great tennis against Thiem in the final to win 7-6 (5) 6-2. Probably the key of the match was when the Austrian hasn’t managed to capitalize on a 4-0 lead in the 1st set tiebreak. After losing the breaker, Dominic was immediately broken in the first game of the second set to bow after battling for 89 minutes.

It’s a big step. POUILLE

Lucas was elated with his maiden title to comment

“I’m very happy with my week. Winning a title is a big step, it’s an objective I wanted to achieve this year. It was a well-played final. We both played at a high level.”

He was the better player. THIEM

Dominic conceded that Pouille has fully deserved the title to comment

“I think the first set was a pretty high level from both of us. I should have won the tie-break, but had an easy volley mistake. All in all, he was the better player and had more chances in my service games. He deserved to win today. I think he put pressure on me all the time and was serving really well.”

After this tournament, Pouille will be ranked no.16… much more to come.
