Wozniacki triumphs in Tokyo

Finally, Caroline Wozniacki is back!

The Dane has fully recovered from her ankle injury to confirm in Tokyo that she is perfectly fit. Caroline had already a great run at the recent US Open after reaching the semifinal; now Wozniacki wins her first title of the season in Japan to complete the comeback.

The former world no.1 had an extremely tough draw in Japan to beat top players such as like Belinda Bencic, Carla Suarez Navarro, and Agnieszka Radwanska.

The final

In the final, Caroline had to face the local favorite and rising star Naomi Osaka that has dropped just 1 set during the week. In the final, the Dane had to recover from 1 break down twice in the first set (1-2 and 3-4). The key stint was when Wozniacki won 7 consecutive games (from 5-5 to 7-5 5-0) to gain an unassailable lead. The final score was 7-5 6-3.Z

After the match, Caroline had great words for her young opponent

“She’s going to be a great player, already rising in the rankings so fast. I’ve no doubt we’ll see her in many, many more finals.”
