Coco Gauff recently addressed the WTA’s decision to ban Elena Rybakina’s coach, Stefano Vukov, following allegations of mistreatment. The young tennis star, known for her candidness, expressed her discomfort discussing the matter in detail. However, she acknowledged the importance of safeguarding players within the sport.

Gauff emphasized that the WTA has the right to protect its players, even if the decisions made are not always popular. She highlighted the significance of ensuring a safe environment for athletes, noting that sometimes victims may not even realize they are being mistreated. This sentiment reflects the broader concern within the tennis community about the well-being of players and the need for strict measures to prevent abuse.

She said, “From my understanding, I know she doesn’t like the decision. I know WTA also has the right to protect her.

Overall, I think it’s nice that the WTA is making sure that they’re out there to protect players.

I definitely think that that’s important in our sport because a lot of times if you look, sometimes victims don’t even know they are victims.

In this sport it’s happened so many times. A lot of times you see former players speaking out years after their career ended how they were treated.”

The ban on Vukov has sparked various reactions among players and fans alike. While some support the WTA’s decision, others, including Rybakina herself, have expressed dissatisfaction. Despite the differing opinions, the focus remains on maintaining the integrity of the sport and prioritizing the safety of its participants.

Gauff’s comments underscore the ongoing efforts to address issues of misconduct and abuse in tennis. As one of the sport’s rising stars, her perspective carries weight and serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and accountability in protecting athletes.
