World No. 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner has accepted a three-month ban following a doping settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The ban, which began on February 9, will last until May 4. Sinner tested positive for the banned substance clostebol in March 2024, but he explained that the substance entered his body through a massage from a trainer who used a spray containing clostebol after cutting their finger.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency initially cleared Sinner of any wrongdoing, but WADA appealed the decision. The case was set to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in April, but Sinner’s legal representatives reached an agreement with WADA to accept the three-month suspension.
Sinner will be eligible to compete in the French Open, which begins on May 25. He expressed his acceptance of the responsibility and the importance of WADA’s strict rules for protecting the sport.
