Fernando Verdasco has joined Novak Djokovic’s coaching team for the upcoming Qatar Open. Verdasco, a former world No. 7, has decided to lend his expertise to Djokovic, who is making a swift return to the court after a thigh injury forced him to retire during the Australian Open semi-final.
Verdasco, who retired from professional tennis in 2023, has been living in Doha and has already started coaching. His addition to Djokovic’s team comes alongside the continued partnership with Andy Murray, who will remain Djokovic’s coach for the rest of the season.
The collaboration between Djokovic and Verdasco is particularly intriguing given their history as fierce rivals on the court. Djokovic leads their head-to-head record 11-4, with one of their most memorable matches taking place in Doha back in 2017.
As Djokovic gears up for the ATP 500 event in Doha, the presence of Verdasco is expected to provide valuable insights and support. The tournament will also feature top players like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, making it a highly anticipated competition.

Currently the world no.7, Djokovic played his last match on the 24th of January when he had to retire when playing against world no.2 Alexander Zverev in the semifinal and the scoreline was 7-6(5) .
At the moment, during this season the Serbian has managed to achieve a compiled 7-2 record. Novak Djokovic’s latest run at the Australian Open was the best achievement of his season.
He is also scheduled to play in Doha (Qatar ExxonMobil Open) on the 17th of February and Indian Wells (BNP Paribas Open) on the 3rd of March.
