Liverpool is set to make waves in the sports world with the opening of the first floating padel courts in the UK at Liverpool Waters. Under the direction of Peel Waters, this innovative initiative aims to deliver a unique athletic experience to the city’s waterfront, joining a small group of global hotspots like Dubai, Miami, and Helsinki.
The proposed facility, located in Princes Dock at Liverpool Waters, will include three floating Padel courts. The courts themselves will be constructed on a special floating platform from Finland and manufactured in Spain. The project is now pending approval from Liverpool City Council, with a decision expected in early 2025 and a potential opening in mid-2025.
Padel, a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, is renowned for being friendly and approachable. Since it’s typically played in doubles, it’s a fun and social activity. Liverpool Waters’ floating padel courts will foster a sense of community among players and spectators in addition to providing a unique sporting experience.
In addition to the courts, Imagineering Global LLP will develop a floating clubhouse at the complex. The clubhouse will feature a restaurant and bar, a covered seating area, and a small specialty retail store. At this Scandinavian-style clubhouse, players and spectators may relax, socialize, and enjoy the stunning views of the waterfront.
“The floating Padel courts will be a famous and must-see location for both Padel players and casual onlookers,” said James Whittaker, managing director of Peel Waters, who is excited about the proposal. Gareth Evans, a well-known Padel player, emphasised the importance of the social aspect of the sport and the unique ambience that the floating facility will create.
