Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur recently shared his thoughts on why he finds Carlos Alcaraz a more favorable matchup compared to Jannik Sinner. After his recent match against Alcaraz in the Rotterdam final, de Minaur acknowledged that while Alcaraz is a challenging opponent, he feels he has a better chance against him.

De Minaur explained that he can rush Alcaraz and make him uncomfortable, which he hasn’t managed to do against Sinner. He emphasized that tennis is all about matchups and that just because one player is ranked higher doesn’t mean they will always win. Despite his efforts, de Minaur fell short in the final set against Alcaraz, who secured his first title of 2025.

He said: “When I play Carlos, we always have very tough battles. It’s just about these matches going my way.

It’s definitely a better matchup for me – playing Carlos.I feel, in ways, I can rush him a little bit; I can pin him and hurt him, and make his life uncomfortable. But I haven’t really managed to do that against Jannik yet, so tennis is all about matchups.”

The Australian player also reflected on his previous loss to Sinner in the Australian Open quarterfinals, where Sinner dominated the match. De Minaur believes that his style of play aligns better with Alcaraz’s game, giving him a better chance in future encounters.

De Minaur remains optimistic about his chances against both players and is determined to improve his game to achieve better results. He continues to work hard and push for more victories in the upcoming tournaments.
