Gael Monfils remains hopeful about returning to competition in Doha despite ongoing struggles with a foot injury sustained during the Australian Open. The 38-year-old Frenchman, who reached the Round of 16 in Melbourne after defeating fourth seed Taylor Fritz, was forced to retire against Ben Shelton and later withdrew from the Open 13 Provence.
Monfils recently shared his concerns about injuries at his age, acknowledging that a major setback could end his career. “It’s not something serious, but at my age, a major injury is the end of a career,” he said. “I have a small muscle tear, so I can’t play yet, but I will travel to Doha, train, and see if I’m ready.”
