Lucas Pouille faced a devastating injury during the Lille final today, leading him to suspect a total rupture of his Achilles tendon. Pouille retired from the match against Arthur Bouquier while trailing 6-3, 3-5, a.b., after experiencing a severe injury.
Pouille described the incident as follows: “The news is, I think, not good. I don’t want to make any statements until there have been tests. But there is a chance that this will be the last match of my career. I think it’s a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon.”
The injury occurred when Pouille was serving to level the match at one set all. He immediately signaled to the umpire that he couldn’t continue, visibly in pain and unable to put weight on his injured leg.
Pouille’s fans and fellow players are sending him their best wishes for a speedy recovery. The tennis community is hopeful that he will be able to return to the court, but the road to recovery may be long and challenging.
It’s a heartbreaking moment for Pouille and his supporters, as he has been a strong presence on the ATP tour. His determination and resilience will be tested as he faces this significant setback.
