Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori won the doubles title at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam, defeating Sander Gille and Jan Zielinski in the final with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 10-6. The Italian pair showed great resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure, winning four tie-breaks throughout the tournament.
Bolelli and Vavassori had a challenging path to the title, but they managed to maintain their form and secure victories in key moments. Their win was particularly significant as it marked their fifth ATP Tour tournament win as a pair and their third ATP 500 tournament win this year, after Halle and Beijing.
With this victory, Bolelli and Vavassori are now ranked third in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings, just 140 points behind the top-ranked team of Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten.
The Italian pair finished the match with an excellent percentage of points won on their first serve, staying calm and focused even in the most difficult moments. “We played well and created many opportunities. We just need to keep going down this path and the results will come,” said Bolelli.
“We started the season in an unbelievable way, in front of our team. It’s a pleasure to share the court with you,” added Vavassori. “My father and mother are watching at home. Thank you to all the fans, it was a great atmosphere. It’s one of the nicest tournaments that I have played… It was a great week for us, so for sure we will come next year.”
Bolelli and Vavassori are now ready to face new challenges and ambitions, with the aim of achieving further milestones and confirming their position as a top pair in world tennis.
