Daniil Medvedev has shut down any speculation about retirement despite a sluggish start to 2025. The world No. 7 suffered another setback on Wednesday, falling 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 to qualifier Mattia Bellucci in the Rotterdam Open round-of-16.

Now 2-2 for the season, Medvedev has yet to find his form, having also suffered an early Australian Open exit to Learner Tien. When asked about his struggles, the 2021 US Open champion pointed to the same issue—slow court conditions.

“Slow courts, slow balls, but it’s not new. I don’t have enough power in these conditions to dictate the game,” Medvedev explained.

Despite concerns over his form, the 28-year-old made it clear he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

“I like tennis, still win a lot of money, so I’m going to continue playing till I can do it,” Medvedev said. “If I drop out of the Top 100, then I don’t know, but this is probably not going to happen. And I’m pretty sure I can come back strong enough. That’s it.”

Medvedev, who went titleless in 2024 for the first time since 2017, has struggled to adjust to what he describes as increasingly slow playing conditions. Whether he can adapt and regain his place among the game’s elite remains to be seen.
