Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 3 tennis player, has raised concerns about the inconsistency of tennis balls used across different tournaments, highlighting how this issue has led to many injuries among players. Speaking after his opening match at the 2025 Rotterdam Open, Alcaraz emphasized the need for change, stating, “I think last year there were many injuries, many players with elbow or shoulder issues. Something needs to change. I know they will change it.”

Other top players have also voiced their frustrations with the frequent changes in tennis balls. Medvedev, in particular, has been vocal about his fears, saying, “These balls are not good enough for professional tennis. This is one of the biggest tournaments in the world and the balls are destroyed after five games. No pressure at all.”

The issue stems from the varying conditions and types of balls used from week to week, making it difficult for players to adapt. Alcaraz pointed out, “Every week, practically every week, we have different balls, different conditions, so it’s complicated to adapt to them. However, we are here to give our best and give the best of ourselves.”

Despite the challenges, Alcaraz remains optimistic and committed to performing at his best.
