Simona Halep, the former world No. 1, has announced her retirement from professional tennis. Halep shared her decision in a heartfelt statement, expressing gratitude for her career and acknowledging the challenges she has faced.
“The thought of retiring crosses my mind very often,” Halep said. “I am old, and I have injuries that I can’t recover from. My knee is not recovering.”
Despite her struggles, Halep remains proud of her achievements. “Everything I have done in tennis has been extraordinary,” she stated. “I have worked for it and I feel like a very fulfilled tennis player.”
Halep’s decision comes after a difficult period marked by injuries and a doping suspension. She has decided to move on from tennis and explore new opportunities in life.
“I have many desires and goals beyond the sport,” Halep added. “Life moves forward, and I’ll take things as they come.”
