Medvedev splits with coach Gilles Simon

Daniil Medvedev, the former world No. 1, has decided to part ways with his coach Gilles Simon after a year of collaboration. Medvedev expressed his gratitude for the experience, despite the partnership not yielding the desired results.

“It honestly was a good experience,” Medvedev said in a pre-tournament press conference. “There were a lot of good things me and Gilles Cervara can take going forward. It just didn’t work out exactly the way we wanted in terms of results. We didn’t win a title or Grand Slam or something like this. But I learned a lot of new things about tennis and it gave me a new perspective about tennis and I’m sure it’s going to help me in the future. We remain with good feelings but we are not working together anymore.”

Gilles Simon also shared his appreciation for the opportunity to work with Medvedev. “A big thank you to Daniil and to the whole team for this year spent together,” Simon wrote on social media. “It was a great experience, very interesting, and I will only have good memories of it. I wish you all the best in the future and, above all, in achieving your goals!”

Medvedev will continue working with his longtime head coach Gilles Cervara as he focuses on upcoming tournaments. The Russian star remains optimistic about his future and is determined to regain his winning form.
