Carlos Alcaraz, the young Spanish tennis sensation, recently made headlines with his debut at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam. Known for his fiery spirit and relentless pursuit of excellence, Alcaraz faced not only his opponents on the court but also the chilly Dutch weather.

“I couldn’t walk around the city because it’s so cold here,” Alcaraz admitted during a press conference. Despite the freezing temperatures, the 21-year-old remained focused on his goal: avenging his previous loss to Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp.

“I want to take revenge,” he declared. “He’s a really top player, and I played against him a few times already. The last time, I lost against him in straight sets. So I want to take revenge.”

Playing in front of a home crowd, van de Zandschulp had the advantage of local support, but Alcaraz remained undeterred. “I’m going to play him in his home, with his home crowd. I’ll try to enjoy my first match here in Rotterdam, see how it’s going to be. The crowd will probably be against me, but I’ll just try to enjoy and do my best.”

After his quarter-final loss to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open, he returned home only to fall ill with a cold. “I spent a few days at home after Australia, but I got a cold,” he shared. “I was struggling a little bit at home. I could only train for two days and then I had to rest until the cold got better.”

Despite the setbacks, Alcaraz’s resilience shone through. “Spending time at home, it doesn’t matter if you are sick, it is always great, having your family there. It allows you to be fresh mentally, to travel again.”

As Alcaraz gears up for his match in Rotterdam, fans and tennis enthusiasts alike eagerly await to see if he can overcome both the cold and his opponent to claim victory. With his unwavering determination and passion for the game, Alcaraz is sure to give it his all on the court.
