Anna Kalinskaya’s 2025 season has been marred by a series of unfortunate events, with her latest setback occurring at the Singapore Tennis Open. The top seed and world No. 18 was forced to retire from her semi-final match against Ann Li due to a right thigh injury. Kalinskaya lost the first set 6-7 (2-7) and received courtside treatment before the start of the second set. Despite Li claiming the first game of the second set, Kalinskaya decided to retire just 59 minutes into the match.
This latest injury adds to Kalinskaya’s challenging start to the year, which includes a first-round loss at the Brisbane International and a retirement in Adelaide due to illness. A virus also forced her to withdraw from the Australian Open at the last minute. With her promising run in Singapore cut short, Kalinskaya will now focus on recovery and defending her Dubai final points in the coming weeks.
As Ann Li advances to the final, she will face either China’s Wang Xinyu or Belgium’s Elise Mertens on February 2nd. Kalinskaya’s fans hope for a swift recovery so she can return to the court stronger and more determined than ever.
