Novak Djokovic’s reputation has taken another hit following his injury-forced retirement in the 2025 Australian Open semifinals against Alexander Zverev. The Serbian, who tore his thigh during the quarterfinals against Carlos Alcaraz, attempted to play but was forced to withdraw after the first set. His exit was met with boos from the Rod Laver Arena crowd, to which he responded with a sarcastic thumbs-up.
Later, Djokovic posted medical scans confirming the severity of his injury. Reports suggest he could miss the Davis Cup, Doha ATP 500, Indian Wells, Miami, and possibly the Monte Carlo Masters. At 37, the 24-time Grand Slam champion must prioritize recovery to extend his career.
Tennis legend Jimmy Connors addressed Djokovic’s struggles on his podcast, emphasizing how public perception often overshadows achievements.
“It just goes to show it doesn’t matter what you do. No good deed goes unpunished,” Connors remarked. “He has done some things, but even when you push yourself to the brink, people will still boo you.”
Connors also shared a quote reflecting his personal philosophy: “Do what you think, say what you want. Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”
