Garbine Muguruza is not having a great moment.
The Spaniard lost a lot of steam after winning the Roland Garros to crash in the early rounds of all the tournaments that she has played soon after (with the exception of Cincinnati).
Things got particularly ugly at the US Open from the very beginning when the Spaniard lost the first set (6-2) in the first round against world no. 137 Elise Mertens (then Garbine won the match in 3 sets). In the 2nd round, Muguruza lost 7-5 6-4 to world no. 48 Anastasija Sevastova. The defeat happened after the Spaniard had an incredible blackout that lasted seven consecutive games: Garbine was 5-4 up, and she suddenly found herself trailing on a 5-7 0-4 score-line.
She made incredible shots. MUGURUZA
Garbine gave credits to her opponent “It’s very rare when you play your best. Everything I was trying to do, she was coming back and doing incredible shots.”
