Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner overcame significant illness to claim his second consecutive title, as revealed by his coach Darren Cahill. The World No.1 was close to withdrawing before his fourth-round match against Holger Rune, battling severe sickness that left him “white as a sheet.”

Cahill disclosed that Sinner’s condition prompted the cancellation of all practices leading up to the match, and medical staff were brought in to monitor his vitals. Despite his struggles, including playing in Melbourne’s intense heat, Sinner managed to defeat Rune in four sets, with crucial breaks in play allowing him time to recover.

The Italian star later defeated Alex de Minaur and cruised to victory in the final, cementing his status as one of the sport’s elite. With both US Open and Australian Open titles in hand, Sinner now has a chance to achieve the rare calendar Grand Slam, a feat accomplished by only two men in history.
