Gael Monfils is well known for his eccentric behavior on court; today he added something more to his collection.
What happened?
Gael was playing the first round at the Flushing Meadows against Gilles Muller; at the beginning of the second set, the Frenchman tried to perform one of his incredible gets, but eventually he crashed against a scoreboard that fell back on him.
The result? Monfils was safe after a narrow escape.
Gael thought he was rather lucky to comment
“When you are in the moment you don’t feel really anything. Just jump. I saw [there] was a wall, but it was quite lucky. I was surprised because it hurt me a little bit. You know, could be pretty bad. Could have fallen on my ankle or calf and could be more than that.”
Gael ended winning the match 6-4 6-2 7-6.
Lucky.
