Madison Keys credited therapy as instrumental in her journey to becoming a Grand Slam champion at the Australian Open. The American revealed that she reached out to her therapist during the tournament to address personal challenges.
Keys secured her maiden Major title just shy of her 30th birthday, defeating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a dramatic 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 final. Her path to glory included victories over top players like Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Elina Svitolina.
However, Keys admitted the turning point came after her grueling second-round match against Elena-Gabriela Ruse, which she narrowly won 7-6 (1), 2-6, 7-5. “I called [my therapist] and said I was dealing with some things. We talked and kept texting throughout,” she shared.
The 29-year-old champion emphasized the importance of mental health, crediting the support for helping her navigate the pressures of the tournament.
