The 2012 BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy is coming to an end.
Gilles Simon is the great favourite to win the Trophy in a tournament that had many upsets. Definately players like Troicki, Mayer, and Baghdatis were expected to achieve more, but that’s tennis.
Simon defeated Bachinger (world nr. 120) in straight sets to try to win this tournament for the third time.
“I know that I can play very good here,” said Simon. “I know the center court perfectly and I really think I can win this tournament one more time.”
On the other side of the draw, Fognini had a remarkable tournament beating Baghdatis 7-5 7-6 (4) and his fellow countryman Andreas Seppi 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-4. It took slightly more than one hour for the Italian to breeze past Attila Balazs of Hungary (world nr.450) 6-3 6-1.
“Right now I’m really happy because it’s my first final,” noted Fognini. “I’ve lost maybe six or seven semifinals in a row, but today I was really solid.”
Simon and Fognini record is 3-0 for the Frenchman (all on them on clay).
