Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic has recently been the subject of a police investigation into potential match-fixing activities. The probe, which began in early 2022, was initiated after suspicious betting patterns were detected in two of Tomic’s matches: a qualifying match at the Australian Open against Roman Safiullin and a match in Turkey the previous year.

Authorities, including the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), conducted a thorough investigation, seizing Tomic’s phone and questioning him extensively. Despite the extensive efforts, the investigation concluded without finding sufficient evidence to press charges.

Tennis Australia and the ITIA have both stated that there is currently no ongoing police investigation into the matter. Tomic has denied any involvement in match-fixing and continues to play on the tour.

While the investigation has been shelved for now, it has reignited discussions about the integrity of professional tennis and the measures needed to safeguard it. The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by sports authorities in maintaining fair play and transparency.
