Coco Gauff easily defeated Leylah Fernandez in a highly anticipated match to advance to the 2025 Australian Open’s Last 16. The American won 6-4, 6-2 in the end, marking the third consecutive victory.
By defeating the 30th seed and previous US Open finalist, Gauff secured her spot in the second week of a Grand Slam for the fourteenth time.
Gauff had already defeated Fernandez twice this season, including in their first meeting at the United Cup. However, it was also her first victory since they first met in juniors. At any level, she has yet to lose a set to the Canadian.
