Serena Williams, family, husband and daughter

Know more about Serena Williams's love life, child and her struggle to balance between family and playing

Serena Williams is doing great in Wimbledon this year and she is in the finals of the tournament.

Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian

The American champ’s story with Alexis Ohanian started in the Cavalieri hotel in Rome. While sitting at the pool one morning, they saw each other for the first time. Ohanian was sitting at the table right next to the table of Serena and her friends.

In their first interaction, Serena was not all that pleased with Ohanian and was even annoyed that he was sitting near her. In fact, the American champ made it very clear to the Reddit founder that she and her friends won’t like him to be near them.

“No, we just don’t want you sitting there. We’re going to use that table.”

Serena was always upfront and this has helped her form a great relationship with Ohanian later on in her life.

Ohanian and Serena got engaged in December 2016 in the same hotel and at the same table by the pool where they had met for the first time. Later Serena announced his engagement in a poem on Reddit:

“At the same table we first met by chance/ This time he made it not by chance/ But by choice/ Down on one knee/ He said 4 words/ And/ r/isaidyes”.

Serena’s pregnancy with her daughter Alexis Olympia

Serena had a complicated pregnancy. She was bedridden for six weeks after the birth of her daughter Alexis Olympia. She went through an emergency caesarean section. Talking about the difficulty giving birth to her daughter, Serena says:

“I almost died after giving birth to my daughter, Olympia,” first my C-section wound popped open due to the intense coughing I endured as a result of the embolism. I returned to surgery, where the doctors found a large hematoma, a swelling of clotted blood, in my abdomen. And then I returned to the operating room for a procedure that prevents clots from travelling to my lungs.”

Serena loves her daughter too much and says that she is not going to spend a day without her till she turns eighteen. It obviously means that she has to make great efforts to juggle between playing professional tennis and being close to her daughter.  She thinks that it’s quite challenging for all working moms.

“Sometimes I get really down and feel like, Man, I can’t do this, it’s that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes. I guess that’s just who I am. No one talks about the low moments—the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry. I’ve broken down I don’t know how many times. Or I’ll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, Why do I feel so sad when I have a beautiful baby? The emotions are insane.”
