Alexander Zverev has expressed his disapproval of the Australian Open’s new coaching pods initiative, which allows coaches closer access to players with real-time stats. The world No. 2, known for his focus on individual development, voiced his belief that tennis should remain a sport of self-reliance.
In a recent press conference, Zverev explained his stance: “Tennis is a sport where you have to figure out things on your own. If they allow coaching, it should be done fully, without the half-hearted approach we’ve seen in recent years.”
Zverev’s comments reflect his preference for clarity in the rules, asserting that either coaching should be fully permitted or completely banned, rather than allowing limited involvement. This marks a rare moment of dissent for Zverev, who typically embraces tradition and self-sufficiency in the sport.
