Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari are among the most prominent sports figures in Greece. At 20 years of age, Stefanos is already ranked no.6, and he seems to be destined to get to the very top of the rankings when the dominance of the Big3 is over. Maria is currently ranked no.32 and she is aiming at breaking in the top20.
Both Stefanos and Maria crashed out a bit early from Wimbledon as Tsitsipas lost in the first round to Thomas Fabbiano in 5 sets while Sakkaro lost in the 3rd round to Elina Svitolina after a tense 3-setter.
Maria Sakkari about her relationship with her compatriots
Talking to the Sdna magazine, Maria commented
“They love us in Greece because we have a good image. Of course, we have many enemies because in Greece there is a bad mentality, but most of them love us.
In every country it’s the same thing. People who do not do anything in their lives; they do not want to be better because they do not have success. They sit in front of a computer and they criticize or tell us bad things. They think we have to win every match and that’s not possible.”
After taking some time off from the competitions, Maria Sakkari will be back on tour by the end of July when she will compete in San Jose.
