Madison Keys, a former resident of the Los Angeles area, announced she is giving $20,000 to the city’s fire department in support of the extraordinarily courageous firefighters who put in countless hours to protect the community and to support their efforts after defeating Jessica Pegula to win the season-opening Adelaide International.
Keys added that the Kindness Wins Foundation, her own charity, is looking into additional ways to support the eventual reconstruction and recovery of the region.
Keys wrote on Instagram: “I am heartbroken by the devastation being caused by the fires in Los Angeles, a place I once called home early in my tennis career. My thoughts are with all the families affected. Please stay safe.”
