Carlos Alcaraz, the young Spanish tennis sensation, has been a dominant force on the ATP circuit, claiming 16 titles from 21 finals. However, despite his impressive achievements, the post-US Open stretch has been challenging for him.
The 2022 US Open champion has found it tough to maintain the same high level of performance in the later months of the season. He admitted that after the intense competition in New York, he often struggles with exhaustion from playing too many tournaments and being away from home. This results in subpar performances in the months that follow.
In 2023, Alcaraz reached only one ATP final after the US Open, a thrilling victory over Jannik Sinner in Beijing. However, he was unable to sustain that momentum, losing early in Shanghai and Paris, and eventually failing to make it past the group stages at the ATP Finals.
Reflecting on the challenge, Alcaraz shared his thoughts, acknowledging the need to manage his energy better. “It’s difficult for me to maintain a high level after the US Open. I get tired in the season’s closing stages, playing many tournaments and spending too much time away from home. The post-US Open period has not been ideal for me,” he said.
However, there has been progress. In 2024, Alcaraz raised his level after the US Open, winning 15 matches and claiming his first post-US Open ATP title in Beijing. He plans to adjust his schedule to distribute his energy more efficiently, especially when it comes to indoor events during the fall season.
Looking ahead to 2025, Alcaraz is hopeful for an even better performance in the latter stages of the year. Despite the challenges he’s faced, the young star remains confident that with adjustments to his approach, he can continue to be competitive and reach new heights in his career.
