Novak Djokovic has made a startling accusation, alleging that he was fed food that poisoned him during his stay at a Melbourne hotel amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking about his health struggles, the Serbian tennis star revealed that the incident left him with a high level of heavy metals in his system.

“I had some health issues. And I realized that in that hotel in Melbourne I was fed with some food that poisoned me,” Djokovic stated, shedding light on a previously undisclosed ordeal.

Upon returning to Serbia, Djokovic underwent medical tests, which revealed alarming levels of heavy metals in his body. “I had a really high level of heavy metal. Heavy metal. I had the lead, very high level of lead and mercury,” he explained, adding, “That’s the only way.”

Djokovic did not specify the timeline of the incident but hinted that it occurred during the pandemic, a period fraught with challenges for the tennis champion. The revelation has raised questions about player welfare and safety protocols in accommodations provided during global tournaments.

As Djokovic prepares for the Australian Open, his comments add another layer to his already complex relationship with Australia, following his high-profile deportation in 2022 over vaccine-related controversies. Despite the challenges, Djokovic remains focused on his pursuit of a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title.
