Juan Martin Del Potro receives the wild card for the upcoming US Open.
The Argentine is currently ranked no. 141 because he is recovering from a nasty wrist injury and he should have played the qualification at the Flushing Meadows. Eventually, the organization has rightfully decided to grant a wildcard to the 2009 champion.
Why Del Potro received a wild card
The decision was probably taken also after Juan Martin’s incredible run in Rio where he won the silver medal after defeating Djokovic and Nadal on the way.

Chance Del Potro will get a main draw wild card at U.S. Open? I say 100%. Will be shocked if he doesn’t.
