Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Kei Nishikori are about to clash for a place in the semifinal in Wimbledon to reinforce, preserve, or improve their positions in the rankings.
Roger Federer’s live rankings
The Swiss Maestro is currently ranked no.3, and it seems almost inevitable that he will clash against his friend Rafael Nadal in the semifinal unless Roger can’t overcome Kei Nishikori and Rafa will not defeat Sam Querrey.
Roger has currently 6,620 points in the live rankings after he defended the 360 points that he gained last year after losing in the quarters to Kevin Anderson. The Swiss sensation can overtake Rafael Nadal in the rankings if he wins the tournament since in that case, he would have 8,260 points while the Spaniard would not be able to have more than 7,945 points. In fact, the Swiss and Nadal are expected to clash in the semifinal, and if Rafa loses he would just defend last year’s points.
Roger will play his next match against Nishikori with a 7-3 record against the Japanese.
Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic’s live rankings.
Rafa has currently 7,585 “live rankings” points. He is defending 720 points from last year’s semifinal in Wimbledon, and he is currently in the quarters (7,945-720+360 = 7,585).
The Spanish sensation has no opportunity to overtake Novak Djokovic as the new world no.1 after Wimbledon. In fact, if Djokovic loses his next match against David Goffin, he will have 10,755 points after dropping 2000 points from winning the Championships last year before adding 360 points from this year’s quarters (12415-2000+360). If Nadal wins Wimbledon, he will have 9,225 points (7945-720+2000= 9,225) and that would not be enough for him to overtake the Serbian.
Kei Nishikori’s live rankings
Kei is currently ranked no.7, and he has the tough task of facing an in-form Roger Federer in the quarters. However, if the Japanese finds the way against the Swiss, he will have 4,400 points for accessing the semifinal and that means that he would leapfrog Stefanos Tsitsipas (4,045 points) and Sascha Zverev (4,325 points) to be the new world no.5. The Japanese can go 1 step further if he reaches the final as he would have 4,880 points that would be enough for him to overtake Dominic Thiem (4,595 points) as the new world no.4 to equal his career high. If Nishikori wins the tournament, he would not be able to overtake Roger Federer (6,620 points) because Kei would have 5,680 points.
