Recently, Jannik Sinner discussed for the first time how Nick Kyrgios upset him because of his doping scandal. According to the Italian, his insistence that he had done nothing wrong enabled him to tune out the outside noise.

While competing in the Indian Wells Masters in March, Sinner tested positive for clostebol. However, five months after his doping tests were unsuccessful, the world No. 1 declared that only “one billionth of a gram” of the banned substance had been found.

A few weeks later, Sinner was found not at fault or negligent by the International Tennis Integrity Association (ITIA). Since then, WADA has appealed the above-mentioned ruling to the Court of Arbitration (CAS), requesting a minimum one- to two-year suspension.

During his pre-tournament press conference in Melbourne on Friday, January 10, the Italian was asked if he paid attention to the criticism he was receiving from the tennis community, particularly from Kyrgios, who hasn’t stopped slandering him on social media.

The 23-year-old replied that he wasn’t overly troubled by Kyrgios’s and some of his peers’ unfavorable perceptions of him because he was well-versed in the specifics of his case.

Sinner talked about it and said: “How do I block it? It’s not that you just put it in part, and you just say, I don’t think any more about this. In my mind, I know exactly what happened, and that’s how I block it, no?” Jannik Sinner told the media at the Australian Open on Friday. “I haven’t done anything wrong. That’s why I’m still here. That’s why I’m still playing. I don’t want to respond to what Nick or other players say. I think the most important part is to have the people around me who I can trust, people who exactly know what happened. That’s it.”

Fans were amazed by Sinner’s mature reply to Kyrgios’ criticism. One fan wrote: “Jannik Sinner is pure class. At 23, he handles adversity with the wisdom and grace of someone twice his age. Meanwhile, Kyrgios thrives on toxicity and bullying; it’s exhausting. Sinner’s focus and resilience reflect true mastery, both on and off the court.”

Another wrote: “Perfect.”
