After joining Novak Djokovic’s coaching staff, Andy Murray has made jokes about trying to “sabotage” Djokovic’s chances of winning the Australian Open.
In Melbourne, where Djokovic will be looking to snap his Grand Slam drought after failing to win any in 2024, the 37-year-old will be in the same corner as his former rival.
Murray was asked in an interview on Thursday following Djokovic’s exhibition match against Alexander Zverev. As retaliation for his own failure to win the event, he joked that he would attempt to sabotage the Serb’s chances of raising the trophy.
Murray said: “I played here a few times but could never quite get over the line, unfortunately. This man is single-handedly responsible for that. I’m now here to try and sabotage his chances of winning another one.”
After Murray’s statement, fans reacted to his hilarious remarks. One fan wrote on X: “Andy Murray’s humor is gold! Coaching Novak Djokovic after their epic battles would certainly be an ironic twist—imagine the insights he could bring to the table!”
