Nick Kyrgios, a former Wimbledon finalist, was surprisingly added to Australia’s squad for their Davis Cup match against Sweden at the end of the month.

In the Australian lineup for the match in Stockholm on January 31 and February 1, the 29-year-old was chosen by captain Lleyton Hewitt along with world number eight Alex de Minaur, Jordan Thompson, and Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Despite having struggled with knee, foot, and wrist injuries since 2022, Kyrgios has been selected, though it is unclear if he will play in the Australian Open, which begins on Sunday.

With his selection to the Davis Cup team, Kyrgios may resume his doubles partnership with Kokkinakis, with whom he shared the Australian Open men’s doubles championship three years prior.

Fans have mixed feelings after Kyrgios was included part of the Davis Cup team. One fan wrote: “NK hasn’t earned a spot yet. what about Alexei? 10 other guys ahead of him!”

Another compared Alexei Popyrin to Kyrgios and wrote: “Poppy > Kyrgios.”

One fan commented: “Kygs Is back, baby.”
