In November of last year, Andy Murray made one of the most shocking announcements in tennis history when he revealed he would coach Novak Djokovic.
Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, is a member of his longtime rival’s coaching staff for the Australian Open. Murray retired from competition in August 2024 following a dazzling 19-year career.
As Djokovic attempts to set a new record by winning his 11th major down under and 25th overall, the two were caught on camera on the practice court on Tuesday.
The Serbian lost to Reilly Opelka in Brisbane last week to start the season. The draw, which is scheduled for Thursday, will reveal the 37-year-old’s opponent in the first round in Melbourne.
Last summer, Murray ended his 19-year career at the Olympic Games in Paris, where he played his final doubles match with partner Dan Evans.
Fans have mixed reactions after Djokovic and Murray were spotted together. One fan wrote: “That’s huge.”
Another one wrote: “Ready for more titles, Idemo Nole.”
One fan commented: “I dunno if I get the reason behind this arrangement. How much impact can Andy really have if he only joins the team with less than a week to go? At first, I thought that Novak might retire after AO and that it was an all-or-nothing attempt. But ND has other tournaments after AO.”
One fan wrote: “Novandy Djokurray is in the house.”
