World No.1 Jannik Sinner has arrived at the 2025 Australian Open with a unique perspective as the tournament’s defending champion. Speaking candidly in a video released by the event, the Italian star shared his thoughts on returning to Melbourne Park, the challenges of the early rounds, and how his holiday season was shaped by personal loss.

“Every Grand Slam is different, especially at the beginning of the season,” Sinner stated. “Players have worked on certain areas of their game, and in the early rounds, everyone is fresher. Coming back as the title defender is a good feeling, but it’s also a different feeling. I’m eager to see how I manage this experience.”

Sinner, who claimed his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne last year, revealed his sentimental connection to the event. “I have the same hotel room as last year. Sitting in the car for hours before a match allows time to reflect, and this place holds a special significance for me.”

The 23-year-old also opened up about a bittersweet Christmas spent with his family. “This year was very different due to the loss of my aunt. It was a stressful and emotional time, but it reminded me of the importance of surrounding myself with trusted people. My aunt was someone I could always confide in, and I’ll carry her memory with me.”

As Sinner embarks on his Australian Open campaign, his reflections highlight the balance between personal challenges and professional aspirations. “Feeling comfortable with the people around you is much more important than winning tournaments, even though that’s what we work for,” he concluded.
