In a heartfelt Instagram post on January 6, 2025, tennis star Naomi Osaka announced her split from longtime partner and father of her daughter, rapper Cordae. The couple, who had been together since 2019, welcomed their daughter Shai in July 2023. Despite the end of their romantic relationship, Osaka praised Cordae, calling him “a great person and an awesome dad”.

Osaka shared that there is “no bad blood at all” and expressed gratitude for the time they spent together. She wrote, “Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together”. The four-time Grand Slam champion also thanked her team, friends, and fans for their support.

The announcement came after Osaka reached the final of the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, marking her first WTA final appearance in nearly three years. Unfortunately, she had to retire from the match due to an abdominal injury. Despite this setback, Osaka remains optimistic about her upcoming participation in the Australian Open.

Osaka’s journey back to form after her maternity leave has been remarkable. She made a strong return to the tennis circuit, upsetting world No. 10 Jelena Ostapenko in the first round of the US Open and breaking back into the top 50 in the world rankings.

As Osaka continues to navigate her career and personal life, she remains focused on being the best version of herself for her daughter. The split with Cordae marks a new chapter for Osaka, but she is determined to move forward positively and continue her journey in tennis.
